When I really wanted to up my digital game and move away from offline marketing completely. Having a professional Digital qualification really helped me to get interviews.

Tell us a bit about your experience before the Digital Marketing Institute

I obtained a marketing degree in the mid-90s and had gained 12 years of traditional marketing experience before Digital started to become part of my work. I found it fascinating. My first website was for a chain of restaurants, and I taught myself a bit about SEO back in the day.

This role was followed by a content marketing job for an internet travel company. In this position, I gained some insight from colleagues on content marketing, SEO, social media and PPC. I found it fascinating but wanted to know more about how to rank higher in search and develop a larger audience through social media, as well as receive training on how to develop a strong PPC campaign.

What influenced your decision to study digital?

My desire to excel in this field led me to start learning online from industry experts, blogs, etc., and that's when I decided to undertake a professional digital qualification.

Why did you choose to study the Professional Diploma with the Digital Marketing Institute?

I did a fair bit of research and found that there were a number of options. I needed to fit the training around my work, and having spoken to the DMI team, I found them helpful and supportive in explaining how I could complete the training part-time at a pace that suited me. I liked the look of the syllabus; it seemed balanced and covered a wide range of topics, but it was still in-depth enough in the key areas.

Since completing the course in the Digital Marketing Institute, how has your Career progressed?

I went on to become a Marketing Manager for a leading fitness industry educator. The role was mostly digital, and I helped to develop their search marketing strategy and digital team. I also launched a strong PPC campaign, increase the website's visibility and SERPs overall. Since then, I have changed roles to another position for a large apprenticeship training company where I am tasked with building the digital strategy. The company's previous marketing was primarily developed around offline marketing techniques.

Is there any advice you would give to new students at the Digital Marketing Institute?

I studied for and took the Google Search tutorials and exams at the same time as the DMI course, as the content aligns and reinforces knowledge and confidence. Try to practice as much as possible while studying. Even if you create sites and social profiles for personal reasons, do as much as you can, as you really do learn through practice and by constantly analyzing and improving.
