Digital Marketing - Study Notes:

A social discovery tool

Pinterest is a visual social channel geared towards social discovery rather than social networking. There is a large focus on content curation on the platform, as Pinterest users organize images and videos into personalized collections, known as ‘Boards’.

Pinterest is used by social media marketers for showcasing products and services of all kinds. The platform often acts as an information resource for users preparing to make a purchase. Every idea is represented by a Pin, which is an image or video that is searched and saved by Pinterest users. Pins can also link back to websites, which makes Pinterest great for driving traffic and sales.

Users tend to collect images from websites and sources around the globe and save them to their own pinboards, categorized by topic. High-impact Pinterest users and larger brands often create their own content for their pinboards, rather than curating images from other sources.

60% of Pinterest users are female, but male users are on the increase. Gen Z and millennials are driving much of the platform’s growth.
