Walkthrough: An Overview of WeChat

by Cathal Melinn

Posted on Feb 16, 2022

WeChat is a multi-purpose messaging, entertainment, and social media app that is hugely popular in China and something marketers everywhere should be paying attention to.

WeChat’s formatting and interface features allow users to play games, video chat with friends, or even use their favorite brands’ apps to shop–all from within the app.

In addition to chat, video, and other in-app messaging capabilities, users can access entertainment and share content and games to socialize and connect with friends and family, make new friends, and even find dates. Users also interact and connect with brands daily, using the app to shop, book restaurants, register government services, and set medical appointments. Users can use the app to send money and make purchases online and off.

The walkthrough covers some of the principal features and the user interface of WeChat as it displays to an account registered in China.

Note: To use certain features in WeChat, your account needs to be verified by a user with a Chinese phone number.
