URL Migration and Redirect Mapping Template

[[p]]Redirect maps usually get built in a rush right before launch, one URL at a time, which is exactly how chains slip through. A page gets redirected to what looks like its new home, except that page is itself redirected somewhere else a few rows down, and nobody catches it because nobody's checking the whole list against itself. The rankings loss shows up weeks later, and by then it's a forensic exercise to work out why.[[/p]]

[[p]]This toolkit will help you keep track.[[/p]]

	[[li]][[strong]]Redirect type logged per row[[/strong]], so 301s and 302s aren't left to guesswork later.[[/li]]
[[li]][[strong]]A record of what changed[[/strong]], useful when someone asks six months from now why a URL redirects where it does.[[/li]]
