Vine’s Updates And How To Use It As A Marketing Platform

by Digital Marketing Institute

If you’re a regular Vine-user, you’ll probably have noticed a few changes if you’ve updated your app recently. Last week, the short-form video sharing service announced a host of new features set to appear in its iOS app. As with any app update, Vine has put the user experience at the centre of all of the new developments.

What’s new?

Users will now be able to upload videos directly from their camera roll. Up until now, users had to record a video directly from the app itself. While this wasn’t a major issue (a Vine can only be about 6 seconds long), uploading from your camera roll gives you the freedom to upload those brilliant moments you capture outside of your Vine app. You will no longer experience the pain of messing up a Vine and having to have a second go at it from within the app – a quick swipe into your camera will do the job.

Navigation within the app has also changed. Managing and editing your videos will be much easier than before – you’ll be able to splice and trim videos to fit into that six-second requirement as opposed to hoping you get each shot right first time around.

For social media marketers…

Vine may not be the most widely used form of social media marketing out there but there are certainly opportunities for those who want to chase them. Since Twitter bought Vine back in 2012, the reach of these short-form videos has jumped. More than 100 million people watch Vines across the internet and there are one billions loops every day – meaning there’s a unique marketing opportunity to be had. Lots of companies use Vine for their marketing campaigns. It’s a clever and creative way to promote your product – in just six seconds. Oreo is one such company.

The new developments make it even more marketer-friendly. Quicker editing and uploading means you have the opportunity to more frequently and in better quality. Being able to upload from your camera roll will also boost your digital marketing campaigns – you can use videos you have already created for other marketing platforms to create consistency between your different platforms and make your marketing that bit easier.
